Bulldog Alert

BulldogAlert is UNC Asheville’s emergency alert messaging system which is used to send emergency messages within seconds of a critical incident affecting the campus community. In addition, the university acknowledges the significance of its role in providing consistent, reliable and accurate follow-up communication throughout the crisis.

Collectively known as BulldogAlert, the university utilizes several emergency notification channels to ensure that emergency notifications are sent quickly and reach as much of the university community as possible.

Notification channels include:

During a critical incident, the university will post updates on the UNC Asheville homepage as information becomes available.

The BulldogAlert website can always be accessed from the bottom of any unca.edu page via the “Bulldog Alert” link.

SMS Text Message Registration

Students, faculty, and staff are automatically enrolled in Bulldog Alert SMS text messages with contact information registered with the university. Students, Faculty and Staff can update and verify contact information online.

Parents, Community Members, and University Affiliates (UNC-Pharmacy School students, or NC State students attending classes at UNC Asheville) can register to receive SMS text alerts (registration for BulldogAlert as a Parent, External Institution, or University Affiliate is valid until June 1 of each year.).

SafeZone App Registration

SafeZone is UNC Asheville’s new safety app that allows all students, faculty, and staff to contact University Police for emergency and non-emergency assistance directly from a mobile device while on campus. In the event of an emergency, you can use SafeZone to quickly share your location and profile details with University Police to ensure a timely response and get connected to the appropriate resources.

Download SafeZone directly from the App Store for Apple Devices and Google Play for Android devices and use your UNC Asheville email address to log in. Please note: SafeZone is replacing our previous campus safety app, RockyShield. Please remove RockyShield from your phone.

Blue Light Emergency Phones

Located throughout campus, Blue Light Phones are constantly monitored and allow for two-way emergency communications. Our standard for installation of new emergency phones includes camera monitoring and external speakers that broadcast emergency notifications.

Outdoor Alert System

Outdoor sirens will be used ONLY to announce imminent, life-threatening emergencies. The sirens will emit a pulsed tone warning signal when the University community is at risk.  A message stating “all clear” will be repeated three times when the danger has passed.
